Greenpeace congratulates Apple for its new iPod greener

My iPod appears in Windows Explorer but not in iTunes

In Windows, your iPod may not work if the iPod does not load or if it does not load properly.

Some of the symptoms:

* A warning message “iPod Service Error” appears when you open the iPod Software Updater utility.
* When you open iTunes, the following message appears: “The software required for communicating with the iPod is not properly installed. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod software. ”
* IPod is displayed in My Computer, but not in the iTunes Source list.

Several solutions are possible. Start with the first and follow the steps until your iPod works with your computer.
Start by installing the latest version of iTunes

1. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete on your keyboard. Manager task should be opened or give you the option to open it.
2. Click the Processes tab.
3. Search iPodService.exe in the list.

While there, go to “Remove iTunes. If it does not go to “Reinstall the COM interface for the iPod.”
Reinstall the COM interface for the iPod

1. Quit iTunes and iPod Updater running.
2. IPodService.exe click in the window of the Windows Task Manager.
3. Click End Process.
4. Click Yes.
5. On the Start menu, click Run. Please note that the Run window may be behind the Task Manager.
6. Enter the following text (including quotes):
“C: \ Program Files \ iPod \ bin \ iPodService.exe” / service
7. Click OK in this window.
8. On the Start menu, click Shut down the computer.
9. Click Restart.

If the iPod does not work with iTunes or the iPod Updater, go to “Remove iTunes.

1. Quit iTunes or iPod Updater.
2. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
3. In Control Panel, open Add / Remove Programs.
4. Select iTunes from the list and click Change / Remove. A window InstallShield iTunes for Windows appears.
5. Click Remove.
6. Click Next. A window “Confirmation of the deletion appears.

8. Click Finish.
9. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
10. Open the Program Files folder.
11. Click on the iTunes folder with the right mouse button and click Delete from the menu.

13. Open the folder iPod.
14. Click the folder bin with the right mouse button and click Delete from the menu.
15. Click Yes. Note: If you can not remove the \ Program Files \ iPod \ bin, see “Alert iPodService.exe below.
16. Click on the trash with the right mouse button and click Empty Trash from the contextual menu.
17. On the Start menu, click Shut down the computer.
18. Click Restart.
19. Go to “Empty your Temp directory and restart.”

Note: Songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store or imported from CDs are saved by default in your My Music folder.
IPodService.exe Alert

Follow these steps if the following message appears when you try to remove the \ Program Files \ iPod \ bin “Can not delete iPodService.exe: It is used by another user or program.”

1. Make sure that neither iTunes or iPod Updater is open.

Empty your Temp directory and restart the computer

1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the desktop).
2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
3. Open Documents and Settings.
4. Double-click the folder with your user name.
5. If a Local Settings folder is present, go to step 8. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.
6. On the Tools menu, choose Folder Options.
7. Select the “Show hidden files and folders.”

8. Click OK.
9. Double-click Local Settings.
10. Click the Temp folder with the right mouse button and click Delete from the menu.
11. Click Yes in the confirmation dialog box that appears.
12. Restart the computer.

6. Click OK in the dialog box that appears.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 if multiple entries match iTunes.
8. Select QuickTime from the list and click Remove.
9. Click OK in the dialog box that appears.
10. Repeat steps 8 through 9 if multiple entries match QuickTime.
11. Click Exit.
12. Restart the computer.
