We go to a Starbucks that is about to buy some frappucinos and take WiFi to connect and view the bill as we go to the movies then also download my email and some articles of the blogs to which I subscribe. As we finished our respective frappucinos, I seek the direction of Agent Apple Authorized Service closer to my house (because I have some problems with quemdora of DVDs on my Mac), and finally we went to the cinema.

He finished the movie and as we left the theater, passing by the theater and I remember a work whose book has long wanted to buy “The Pillow Man” (an excellent thriller), so I note in the Pocket Informant, I see that I have another appointment , I say goodbye to my friends and I embark on the home of another friend with whom I have a meeting. Once at home, I transfer some Word and Excel documents through your home wireless signal to the Air Sharing and I read some more blogs in NetNewsWire while reviewing documents.

After the meeting, talked for a while and go. Time to walk with a little music. The Arcade Fire, Beck and Chairlift sound fantastic, but it is too late so I took another taxi. Study Japanese so I take the taxi to review some verbs Kanji and Japanese with Kanji Flip and Flip Japanese respectively, and then some of the concepts ” Japanese “, an excellent Japanese dictionary.

I come home, I review and edit my appointments and tasks of tomorrow (again in Pocket Informant) and remember to make a transfer to my brother. I use my Macbook but not easy for me to do it from my iPod so I send the transfer from there. I take to buy Blindness (Saramago) at Amazon and confirm the appointment with the Agent Apple Authorized Service within two days.

How do you do all these things with one device-not including the iPhone-and at the same time pass so well? And without even worrying about the battery! Japanese dictionaries, databases, whole language, read and download documents, watch YouTube videos, check my email and play Rolando (excellent game by the way). Not to mention the contacts, notes and the excellent support that Pocket Informant and that gives me almost by itself is a Personal Assistant. All this with an iPod.

I’ve always liked the PDA’s, I had a couple (Windows Mobile) and at this time I had affection for them both. But the fact that an iPod can do most things more important than a PDA is just unbelievable. And the iPod is faster, sharper, more reliable and is even starting to have very good games. And compared to a PDA is also cheaper.

As I wrote above, I’ve had PDAs before and am well aware of the limitations of the iPod Touch against them (many of which will be resolved with the release of iPhone OS 3.0). But for what I need and for what I do is almost perfect. Sure, I do not have the demands of a senior or an expert in systems and technology, but maybe that’s what Apple got (and probably “accidentally wanting”), a PDA for the user “average”, a PDA for “the rest of us.”

It is difficult to conclude this small article without going into some kind of cliche, but there is no other way to describe the potential here. Whoever buys an iPod Touch and see beyond what most do with one of them has the opportunity to find a bit of whatever they like. Sure, the iPod Touch / iPhone have become a tour de force for anyone even slightly interested in technology but not only for themselves, here’s a little bit of everything for us all.
