Today we will talk music. ITunes was playing that great song, “Younger Face”, the legendary Dan Baird, and thought it a great song to make one of those smart playlists in iTunes. I did, and I was disappointed, there you have the photo of that list.

In the results, there are three things wrong:

1) Acierta with many results, but not all. It has nothing to do with Poison Tom Petty, the results are good but not terribly bad.

2) Acierta taking more songs by the same artist that we have chosen, Georgia Satellites. It does not take a genius to recommend songs from the same artist, the problem here is that it may be many of the same artist.

3) It has come as a result the song Track 17 artist called “No idea”. This should be impossible, it’s a pretty rare error.

So after months of learning course, Genius playlists are still a great tool, do their usefulness but continue to do so a bit vague at times.

We have been testing more examples, and the results are generally good, especially if the song is known. Still, from time to time, we blunders. Here is another bad example:

Beach Boys

We chose “California Dreaming”, a song from the ’60s, The Mamas and the Papas, covered by the Beach Boys. It’s a beautiful song, sure we all know that introduction of 12-string guitar.

The results do not appear or the Beach Boys, or Mamas and the Papas, although there are some things 60. The problem is that there is everything, pop hits of the 80s, and even a punk rock song, part of a movie, “Scotty Does not Know”. Curiously, this song has been plagiarized by the world famous vilely Miley Cyrus, but that’s another story.

In conclusion, Genius is a wonder, we use a lot, and we’re not saying we do not like. You know that Genius depends on analysis of our libraries, and learning from them to deliver better results. What we say is that we see the same mistakes of the first day you activate, that learning does not seem to be evolving, it is our conclusion.
