iPhone: VoIP and 3G no longer enemies?
Good, indeed excellent news for users iPhone: the will of AT & T, VoIP is not longer the taboo of mobile network and so before long, promises the telecommunications giant, Skype phone with the apple will be fully used to make calls even under 3G coverage.
The press release about AT & T is clear:
AT & T announced today that it has taken the necessary steps to enable Apple to enable VoIP applications to the iPhone even under cover of the network AT & T. Previously, VoIP applications only worked undercover for a while WiFi and AT & T offered a variety of other devices that can exploit the VoIP covert 2G, 3G and WiFi. This afternoon, AT & T Inc. and Apple has informed the FCC of its decision.
Apple obviously wasted no time and is already working to expand the scope of news to all its users:
Apple has welcomed the announcement. “We are delighted that AT & T now supports VoIP applications,” said Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris. “Amend our license agreement for developers to bring VoIP applications on the App Store and in the hands of users as quickly as possible. ”
And in a company blog post, the president of Skype Josh Silverman stated that it appreciated the news
All of us at Skype we applauded the announcement of AT & T for opening the 3G network to applications that allow you to make calls over the Internet, like Skype. And ‘the right step for AT & T, Apple, for millions of mobile users for Skype and the Internet itself.
With all the talk lately is that of transparency, openness of the network and Net Neutrality, AT & T’s move is not surprising either that much was due, desirable and necessary. And it is probably better to have a say now with independent decision rather than risk the safety restrictions by governments that eventually reach anyway. And now that this taboo has fallen, it would perhaps be to bring even the push notification, on this blessed Skype for iPhone?
